Coupe’s Cabriolets and Roadsters

“It was nice to see two of our favourite cars, the Mazda MX5 and the Hyundai Coupe doing well in the December edition of the Whatcar? Used Car Reliablity survey.

used mazda mx5Described as, ‘a car that cost’s less than 20,000 keeping the likes of Mercedes, Porsche and BMW off the top spot’, by Whatcar?, the MX5 has always had a reputation for reliability as well as low running costs.

Both generations of the MX5 scored 5 stars a piece, because only 6 out of 100 owners of the 1998-2005 model suffer problems. The 1990-1998 model was equally impressive with only 11 claims per 100 cars. When things do go wrong, the Mazda roadster is one of the quickest cars to repair and costs on average, a relatively modest 256 to put right.

The 1990-1998 model cost on average 202 to fix and when you compare that to an Audi TT (99-) which had 50 claims per 100 and an average repair cost of 446, it kind of puts a little perspective on things.

used hyundai coupeAt the opposite end of the financial scale, Hyundai Coupe’s built between 1996 and 2001 cost on average 145 to fix and were the quickest and easiest to put right. Scoring 4 stars out of a possible 5, the Coupe was the cheapest out of them all to repair and only 21 out of 100 cars suffered problems.

Obviously nobody wants to have to take their car in for repair but it’s part and parcel of car ownership. But this survey illustrates the way in which Japanese and Korean car manufacturers are setting the standard in car reliability.”
